CA’s biggest city votes for $30 minimum wage for airport, hotel workers; Jobs could be cut by bosses

LOS ANGELES, CA — In a significant development with sweeping implications for the city’s tourism sector, the Los Angeles City Council voted 12–3 this week to advance a proposal that would gradually raise the minimum wage for hotel and airport workers to $30 an hour by 2028. A final vote is expected next week.

The proposal, spearheaded by Councilmembers Curren Price and Katy Yaroslavsky, targets workers at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and hotels with over 60 guest rooms. It would begin with a wage of $22.50 per hour in July 2025, increasing annually until reaching $30 by July 2028, according to the proposal.
