Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Reaffirms Commitment to Public Safety, Distances Itself from Immigration Enforcement

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) issued a statement to clarify its stance on federal immigration enforcement actions across the county, reassuring the public that the department does not engage in civil immigration enforcement activities.

Sheriff Robert G. Luna emphasized that immigration enforcement falls under the jurisdiction of federal agencies, not local law enforcement. “The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department does not engage in mass deportation sweeps, nor do we enforce civil immigration laws,” Luna said. “We do not inquire about an individual’s immigration status when responding to calls for service.”
