Deputy Controller Rick Cole to Step Down, One Week After Daughters’ Arrest at Anti-ICE Protest

LOS ANGELES – Rick Cole, Chief Deputy Controller for the City of Los Angeles and a veteran public servant, announced his resignation from City Hall just a little more than a week after his twin daughters were arrested during a downtown protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.

Cole, who has served under City Controller Kenneth Mejia since December 2022, will step down July 11 to focus on his elected role as a Pasadena City Councilmember and his teaching positions at Occidental College and Pepperdine University, he announced in a LinkedIn post Monday.
