Los Angeles County beachgoers, take heed: certain local waters might not be as inviting as they seem. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued a warning for residents to steer clear of swimming, surfing, or engaging in any water play at select beaches due to bacteria levels that have shot past health standards. The impacted areas include stretches near the Ramirez Creek at Paradise Cove, Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach, and the ever-popular Santa Monica Pier.
In a bulletin disseminated by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the advisories extend 100 yards upcoast and downcoast from these points, with complete swim areas off-limits at Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey and Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. Not spared by the bacterial boogeyman, waters bordering The Bel Air Bay Club at Will Rogers State Beach also join the list, affecting 100 yards of shore adjacent to the club’s border fence.
While the notice certainly tempers the enthusiasm of summer surf sessions and family outings, there’s a silver lining for beach lovers.
