On June 3, days before federal agents expanded immigration enforcement across Los Angeles County, three unidentified masked men tried to board a Metro bus in Koreatown, according to Jaime C., the bus operator that day. He said they looked nothing like the nannies, gardeners, and hotel workers he typically picked up at that time on the westward route. Jaime was concerned that they might be federal immigration agents who could harm his passengers so he said he refused to let them board.
The agents, who Jaime said were armed and dressed in plain clothes, knocked on the bus door and presented a Metro TAP card. But they didn’t identify themselves or explain why they needed to board, said Jaime, who asked to withhold his last name due to fear of retaliation from Metro.
Jaime said he spoke to the men loudly, so that the security surveillance system on board would record the interaction. “I said, ‘I’m not opening my door due to safety reasons and it looks like somebody has something suspicious.”…
