Erik Menendez was hospitalized on Tuesday and is undergoing treatment for kidney stones, according to TMZ, prompting his attorney to call for his immediate release. Erik and his brother Lyle fatally shot their parents in 1989 and are seeking a resentencing.
His attorney says: Erik’s criminal attorney, Mark Geragos, told TMZ on Tuesday that his client’s condition is so serious that he’s asking Gov. Gavin Newsom to release him immediately. Geragos said Erik is getting treatment in prison. LAist has reached out to Geragos for additional comment.
Where are we on their resentencing? Earlier this month, a judge had ordered the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office to prove why the brothers should remain incarcerated. The order notes that lawyers for the Menendez brothers have two pieces of evidence they say could have changed the outcome of the brothers’ second murder trial.
