Mobile clinics bring care to undocumented families amid ICE fears

LOS ANGELES — As federal immigration enforcement hits sanctuary cities like Los Angeles, a local health provider is taking a bold step to ensure vulnerable communities still receive care, by bringing it closer to their doorsteps.

St. John’s Community Health has deployed five mobile clinics across Southern California to meet undocumented patients where they may feel safest, in their neighborhoods.

“We are seeing an increase in patients who want home visits or who are willing to see mobiles that are closer to their home,” President and CEO Jim Mangia said. “One of the things patients have said to us is that they’re afraid to get on the bus. If it’s walking distance, they feel safer getting to a clinic appointment.”…
