Lynwood Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Trafficking Methamphetamine into Oregon

A Lynwood, California man, found guilty of trafficking methamphetamine into Oregon, has received a 14-year sentence in federal prison. Luis Banuelos, 34, faced a federal judge who imposed the sentence on Monday, in addition to mandating five years of supervised release following his time behind bars. The sentencing came after Banuelos pleaded guilty to drug distribution charges, as reported by The Department of Justice.

On February 28, 2021, officers from the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team arrested Banuelos, who was caught transporting methamphetamine from California, intended for a customer in Prineville, Oregon. Arresting officers found two boxes in Banuelos’s vehicle, holding more than 11 pounds of the narcotic. Banuelos, after being arrested by investigators, admitted he had been running drugs approximately seven times between the states for distribution purposes.

Banuelos’s engagement with drug trafficking reached its legal crescendo on August 4, 2022, when he was formally charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
