Homeless program ‘We Are LA’ opens casework office in South L.A.

The city has opened its first We Are LA casework office in the Crenshaw District to help residents at risk of eviction stay in their homes.

The office, operated by the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles, offers one-on-one assistance to tenants facing legal or financial challenges that could lead to homelessness. Caseworkers help with tasks such as filing court responses to eviction notices, applying for public benefits, navigating legal aid and overcoming language or technology barriers.

The expansion is part of Bass’ focus on preventing homelessness, which city officials say has contributed to a second year of declining numbers of unhoused residents.
