Firefighters, aided by air support, rushed to control a wildfire that broke out Thursday morning in the hills along Interstate 5 in northwestern Los Angeles County, according to officials.
The King Fire, which ignited around 1 am, has scorched nearly a square mile (2.5 square kilometers) of dry brush in a sparsely populated area about 60 miles (100 kilometers) north of downtown LA. A total of 406 personel responded to the blaze, which was driven by wind.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. It comes as a thunderstorm is set to blast California, increasing wildfires and power disruption risks.
