When Veronica Briones moved into her husband’s Florence-Firestone home about three years ago, they were excited to have a place to expand their family. But that excitement slowly dwindled as they experienced putrid odors coming daily from the ReConserve recycling factory about four blocks away.
Veronica Briones and her husband Angel Briones described the odor like “moldy bread” and “yeasty.” Or like “old stale beer” left out for days. He had gotten used to the smell, but she couldn’t.
At first, the Veronica Briones said they couldn’t pin-point where the smell was coming from. Angel Briones said he thought the smell was coming from the sewer or alley. It wasn’t until he and his wife became involved with a community group supporting the creation of the new park, that they identified the smell as coming from the ReConserve factory.
