One suspect is in custody after a shooting and stabbing broke out near a Los Angeles area mall on Thursday, leaving one woman injured, according to local authorities.
The Los Angeles Police Department said a man armed with an AR-15 style rifle opened fire at the Westfield Topanga Mall in the Canoga Park area Thursday afternoon. LAPD officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 6600 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard just before 12:30 p.m. PT on Thursday.
The department said the suspect fired shots at a woman who was with her child, but missed. He then proceeded to stab the victim, reportedly. The child was unharmed, according to police.
