LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday delayed a decision on whether to approve another $5 million for the private law firm defending the city in a high-stakes homelessness case, after more than 90 minutes in closed session produced no clear answers.
The council voted to send City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto’s request to its budget committee for further review. Feldstein Soto asked to increase the city’s contract with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP from $900,000 to $5.9 million, citing the firm’s heavy workload in LA Alliance for Human Rights v. City and County of Los Angeles.
