LA Residents Alarmed as Koreatown Encampment Grows Out of Control

Residents in Los Angeles’ Koreatown say a vacant lot has transformed into a massive homeless encampment that they describe as a “tiny city,” raising concerns about safety, crime, and fire hazards. The encampment, located on South Manhattan Place between 7th and 8th streets, began forming in May with just a few tents but has since expanded into an elaborate settlement with large makeshift structures.

Aerial footage from Sky5 showed the lot filled with tents, debris, and improvised shelters surrounded by apartment complexes and businesses. Neighbors reported that some residents of the encampment have been seen running extension cords across the street to steal electricity from nearby buildings.

Sasha, a local resident, told reporters that the site has become increasingly dangerous, claiming that “they blew up two cars” and that drug deals are happening in broad daylight in front of children. Others in the community worry about fires due to the electrical theft and accumulation of trash…
