An influx of heavy rain east of Southern California on Thursday triggered devastating mudslides, trapping drivers for hours on the roadways.
The flooding happened east of Los Angeles, which unleashed mudslides and floodwaters with fast-moving debris.
One tragic incident in Barstow saw the water sweep away a vehicle carrying a father, 26-year-old Brandon Padilla Aguilera, and his 2-year-old son, Xavier Padilla Aguilera. Authorities said on Friday that while the father was able to be rescued, the little boy sadly drowned.
