Sudden Influx of Homeless in Venice Raises Questions of Out-of-State Transfers

VENICE – Residents in Venice are raising concerns about what they describe as a sudden influx of homeless individuals, including people in wheelchairs and others in visibly poor health.

One resident contacted the Current this week and shared photographs of several people recently spotted on the Boardwallk and neighborhood streets. The resident said one man claimed he had been given cash and a travel voucher from Texas before arriving in Venice. The man identified himself as a senior and a methamphetamine addict, according to the resident.

Others pictured appeared to be missing limbs or showed signs of serious medical issues. The resident said the community is alarmed and confused about why the new arrivals are showing up now…
