LA Metro Board member wants a plan for ICE on transit as reinstated bus drivers fight for back pay

Los Angeles County Supervisor and Metro Board member Janice Hahn told LA transit officials Thursday that the agency must develop a plan for responding to a situation where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents attempt to conduct enforcement operations on the system.

The LA regional transportation agency has faced calls from bus and train operators to protect passengers by informing them about their rights and by implementing a plan to keep riders safe during federal immigration raids on buses, trains or stations.

“I asked a couple board meetings ago, ‘what is the protocol for ICE boarding our trains or buses?’ and I’m pretty sure we don’t have one,” Hahn said at the Metro board meeting Thursday. “We all have an obligation to figure out what we can do to give immigrants in LA County the safest possible place to live and work.”…
