The City of West Hollywood Acknowledges Intersex Awareness Day with Installation of Intersex Pride Flag

The city of West Hollywood acknowledged Intersex Awareness Day by installing the intersex pride flag and the Progress flag with the intersex symbol at the medians on Santa Monica Boulevard on Sunday. An intimate ceremony was held that morning with city officials to celebrate the raising of the flags.

Mayor Chelsea Byers, Vice Mayor John Heilman, and Councilmembers John Erickson and Danny Hang joined community member Seven Graham, the world’s first intersex comedian and one of only two out intersex actors in Hollywood, at 9 a.m. on Santa Monica Boulevard for the flag raising.

“After ten years of living here, I felt so happy to become a U.S. citizen on Election Day last year,” Graham said. “I immediately applied for a U.S. passport, and it came in December 2024 with the X sex marker that recognizes one in 1,500 people are born intersex. It’s the first legal document I’ve ever owned that ‘sees’ me — us.”

Graham said he is relieved to live in Los Angeles and have the City of West Hollywood as a “beautiful safe harbor.”…
