A man was detained on suspicion of various offenses and active warrants after discarding a stolen vehicle near Commerce Center Drive north of State Route 126 and fleeing on foot on Sunday evening, according to a California Highway Patrol official in the Newhall region.
The charges included having a stolen vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs, assaulting a peace officer, and resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer. Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, the public information officer of the CHP, stated in an email that the active arrest warrants included assault likely to result in grave bodily harm and attempted escape.
