Gunfire erupted during a police response in Koreatown on Friday morning, leaving a man in critical condition after officers opened fire on a suspect allegedly armed with a sharp object, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers from the Olympic Division were dispatched to the 800 block of South Vermont Avenue shortly after 7:15 a.m. following reports that a man was cutting himself while holding a sharp object.
