Man surrenders after barricade, gunfire prompts Southbay road closure

A man was taken into custody Saturday morning after a brief barricade situation and reports of gunfire that shut down a stretch of El Segundo Boulevard in Hawthorne, authorities said.

Hawthorne police responded to the 4100 block of El Segundo Boulevard early Saturday after receiving calls about gunshots, according to Lt. Robert Mitchell, the department’s Watch Commander. The first public advisory came just after 6:30 a.m., when CHP announced that El Segundo Boulevard had been closed between Hawthorne Boulevard and Prairie Avenue due to police activity.
