Over 10,000 Undocumented Immigrants With Criminal Records Arrested in Los Angeles Since June, DHS Reports

Since June 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reported the arrest of more than 10,000 undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles, California. The operation was carried out by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Authorities focused on individuals with criminal records, including charges such as murder, kidnapping, sexual offenses, and armed carjacking.

DHS stated that some arrests took place during incidents where groups attempted to interfere with law enforcement. Officers reported objects being thrown at them during these events. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin noted the challenges faced by officers, including physical confrontations and criticism from some local officials. She mentioned California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, expressing concern about local policies related to public safety. McLaughlin commended DHS officers for their work during the operation.

Those arrested came from several countries, including Iran, Mexico, Armenia, Cuba, and Kenya. DHS highlighted cases such as Alireza Hashemi from Iran and Juan Carlos Tamayo from Mexico, both convicted of violent crimes.
