Two Montebello men were arrested in what’s believed to be a large-scale mail theft operation, involving stealing checks from mostly “affluent communities,” according to authorities.
Ojai has been seeing an uptick of mail theft targeting monetary checks from U.S. Postal Service collection boxes for some months with those checks being cashed and as a result “several hundred thousand dollars” stolen, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Detectives found that an organized crime ring was allegedly operating in the Ojai Valley and throughout Ventura County and over months identified two Montebello men, one 27 and the other 20. They are suspected of committing and orchestrating the mailbox thefts and coordinating the thefts with other members of their crime group, the release says…
