South Gate Police Seize Firearms in Two Incidents, Gang Member and Additional Suspects Detained

In a recent display of proactive law enforcement, South Gate Police Department officers successfully removed two firearms from the streets in two separate incidents early this week. According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, officers first responded to a call near Firestone Blvd and Long Beach Blvd and detained a subject who was behaving erratically and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The individual, identified as a gang member on active parole, attempted to flee but was apprehended without incident. “Officers then recovered the object which was a loaded semi-auto handgun,” the Facebook post detailed.

Furthering their efforts, SGPD officers were called to a scene at State St and Tweedy Blvd where a disturbance involving multiple individuals was reported. When they arrived, two suspects were detained in proximity to an abandoned bag, inside of which a loaded .45 caliber semi-auto handgun was found. “After both denied ownership, officers located a loaded .45 caliber semi-auto handgun inside the bag and subsequently arrested both subjects,” reported the City of South Gate Police Department.
