A pair of shootings that took place around the corner from each other left a man and a woman dead, police say, and it is believed the two incidents are related.
The Long Beach Police Department confirmed that a report of gunshots being heard came in from the 1500 block of Summit Street near Caspian Avenue around 10:51 p.m. Friday.
When officers arrived at the scene, a neighborhood on the city’s West Side, they found a woman who had been shot in the upper body. Despite the officers and responding paramedics rendering medical aid, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Approximately seven minutes later, officers received another report of a second “hit shooting” in the 1600 block of West 19th Street near Canal Avenue, LBPD said. That location is just a tenth of a mile from the scene of the first shooting; Summit and Caspian is located on the northeast corner of the block, and 19th and Canal is located on the southwest corner of the same block.
