City looks at new steps as tents return on Wilshire

Tents have returned to the sidewalk in front of the former 99 Cents Only Store building at 6121 Wilshire Blvd., where the city formerly removed an encampment last April just west of Fairfax Avenue.

The city has been monitoring the site, which stayed clear for nearly eight months until a small group of people recently began setting up makeshift shelters in front of the boarded building. A spokesman for Los Angeles City Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky, 5th District, said more resources will be directed to the area now that unhoused people have returned.

“It continues to be one of the sites in the district where were are regularly engaged,” Yaroslavsky’s spokesman Leo Daube said. “We will do outreach and CARE Plus as necessary, and are working with LAHSA to make sure people are getting the resources they need as quickly as possible.”…
