Just after 10:30 p.m. on December 31, 2025, gunfire echoed through a Northridge neighborhood as celebrations marked the arrival of the new year. An off-duty ICE agent, residing in the apartment complex, heard shots and believed he was facing an active shooter scenario. He confronted a man who witnesses described as firing a rifle into the air, a reckless act amid the holiday festivities.
The agent, acting on his training, drew his weapon and exchanged fire with the individual. The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the agent emerged unharmed.
