Passion, disruption and energy. That is what Thursday’s Long Beach STOP ICE TERROR emergency protest brought into the late-night hours.
PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation) Long Beach organized the protest late Wednesday, hours after a legal observer, Renee Nicole Good, was shot and killed by an Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Hundreds of people gathered in front of City Hall with picket signs, horns and drums. The protest began with multiple speakers from PSL Long Beach chanting with the protestors, “Nicole Good, say her name, ICE kills with no shame!”
“When I saw the news about Renee Nicole Good being murdered in broad daylight, that really moved me and it gave me a pause because I know my fellow organizers are out on the streets just like Renee was,” said Bianca Carrillo, organizer for PSL Long Beach. “I just thought, you know, that could be any of us. That was very eye-opening and it fuels my drive to change things, to change the system even more.”…
