Echo Park & Silver Lake—Several persons were taken into custody outside homes and businesses on Friday morning in Echo Park and Silver Lake during immigration raids, according to a City Council member and immigrant advocates.
Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, whose district includes both communities, said agents picked up persons at a gas station, people who were painting a wall, and a worker sweeping outside a restaurant.
“We are here in Echo Park, where ICE agents have been kidnapping people throughout the entire neighborhood,” Soto-Martinez said in an Instagram post. “We are asking the public to please be vigilant. Check your surroundings. If you see something, be prepared to record at a safe distance.”…
