A 37-year-old man was arrested for felony battery and elder abuse on Jan. 9 for a random attack on a 74-year-old male pedestrian at the northwest corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly Drive.
A police officer who happened to be nearby witnessed the incident and quickly arrested the suspect, who was identified as Daryl Heaps. The attack occurred without warning as the victim was at the corner and the motive is unknown, BHPD Lt. Kevin Orth said. Heaps, who was likely suffering from mental health issues, does not have a permanent address, Orth added.
The suspect was booked for battery with serious bodily injury and elder abuse, which are both felonies, and willfully resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer, which is a misdemeanor. He is being held on $50,000 bail…
