A Los Angeles estate that late-night TV legend Johnny Carson once called home has hit the market for a dash under $40 million. All proceeds from the sale have been earmarked for three charities: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the David Geffen Foundation, and SHARE, which supports disabled, abused, and neglected children. David Kramer and Andrew Buss of Compass share the listing.

The longtime Tonight Show host, who died in 2005 at age 79, acquired the midcentury-modern residence in the early 1970s with his third wife Joanna, a former model. Joanna retained the property upon the couple’s divorce in 1985, after a separation and 11 years of marriage. She subsequently undertook a multi-year renovation and, until her death last year, split her time between California and New York, where she kept a pied-à-terre at the Pierre. Carson, meanwhile, lived out his days at a Malibu compound that recently hit the market for $110 million.
