Taix Restaurant in Echo Park announces upcoming closure

Echo Park—Taix Restaurant, one of L.A.’s oldest eateries serving up classic French cuisine, will be closing at the end of March, one year shy of its centennial, as a developer prepares to begin construction on a large residential and commercial complex.

Owner Mike Taix announced the closure to the staff this afternoon at the Sunset Boulevard restaurant, which opened in 1927 in Downtown Los Angeles before moving to Echo Park in 1962. The new project will include a new version of Taix, but it will be at least 3-1/2 years before construction is completed.

The closure was not a surprise since plans to demolish the restaurant to make way for the new, six-story project were announced in 2019. But the restaurant, where waiters and bartenders have served long-time customers for decades, continued to operate under a lease with the developer, Holland Partner Group, which owns the property…
