Dawn Stabbing Turns Glendale Driveway Into Crime Scene, Suspect Nabbed In Santa Monica

What started as a quiet Tuesday morning in Glendale ended with a homicide investigation after a man in his 40s was found fatally stabbed in a driveway on the 300 block of West Broadway. Officers responded just before 7 a.m., and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. By Thursday, detectives had zeroed in on 44-year-old Mario Medina-Restrepo as a suspect, and he was arrested in Santa Monica.

According to Glendale officials, the victim suffered a single penetrating wound to the chest, prompting homicide detectives, forensic specialists, and the Los Angeles County coroner to respond to the scene. Investigators used DNA analysis at the Verdugo Regional Crime Laboratory, which helped identify a possible suspect, later named as Medina-Restrepo, 44. In a press release, the Glendale Police Department said the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. Glendale Police Department

How the suspect was located

Once detectives had a name, they called in the Pacific Southwest U.S. Marshals Task Force, who helped track Medina-Restrepo to Santa Monica. He was arrested there just after 11 a.m. on Thursday and taken into custody without incident. Investigators say the deadly confrontation appears to have stemmed from an altercation between the two men and does not look like a random attack. As reported by KTLA, authorities have not shared any further details about a possible motive or formal charges.
