Armed Woman Surrenders Peacefully After Standoff with Long Beach Police on East Wardlow Road

Last night, the Long Beach Police Department responded to what they characterized as a “no-hit shooting” on the 700 block of East Wardlow Road. According to the LBPD blotter, the incident unfolded around 10:35 p.m. A distressed adult female, who was barricaded in a vehicle and armed, was reportedly experiencing suicidal ideations. The officers engaged in efforts to de-escalate the tense situation.

In a detailed account given by the police, the Mental Evaluation Team, alongside a hostage negotiator and K-9 resources, was called to the scene to safely coax the woman into surrendering. After enduring a standoff lasting roughly an hour, the woman ultimately chose to give herself up without resorting to violence. No one was injured during the incident, which police say remains under investigation.

The LBPD Blotter entry also notes that the woman in question was then assessed on-site by the Long Beach Fire Department before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. This resolution highlights the department’s growing focus on mental health crises and its dedication to ending such encounters without resorting to force whenever possible…
