A 92-year-old woman was making what appeared to be an unsafe left turn before clipping a bicyclist and crashing into a 99 Ranch Market in a deadly chain of events Thursday in Westwood, the LAPD told NBC4 Investigates.
The new details were part of the preliminary investigation into the afternoon crash that killed three people at the store at 1350 S. Westwood Blvd., on the corner of Rochester Avenue. It remains unclear whether the driver panicked and pressed the accelerator pedal or whether she thought she was braking and hit the wrong pedal.
The car, possibly a Mercedes Benz sedan, ended up entirely inside the front of the store. It will be examined to determine whether there are any mechanical issues. Detectives will retrieve information from the car’s onboard computer and check the woman’s medical and driving history to determine whether there are any restrictions placed on her driving, authorities said…
