A confidential Los Angeles Fire Department memo outlined a strategy to protect Mayor Karen Bass and city leaders from potential “reputational harm” tied to the deadly Palisades Fire, according to newly obtained records reported by the Los Angeles Times.

The internal document, labeled “CONFIDENTIAL – FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY – DO NOT DISTRIBUTE,” detailed communications planning ahead of the release of LAFD’s after-action review examining the department’s response to the January 2025 wildfire.
