Rare heat wave is about to erupt in one part of California — then spread across state

A rare March heat wave begins Thursday across the state, first erupting across Southern California before gradually spreading to the entire state early next week. Temperatures will surge into the 90s and even triple digits in parts of Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire on Thursday and Friday.

Those temperatures could challenge several daily records across the region, particularly in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles Basin.

The National Weather Service has already issued heat advisories through Friday evening for large portions of Southern California, including the coastal valleys and interior foothills. The early-season heat could pose a higher risk for heat-related illnesses because many residents have not yet acclimated to hot weather this year…
