LA Woman Faces Sentencing for Role in $23M Medicare Fraud

A Los Angeles woman faces sentencing Tuesday for her role in a scheme to defraud Medicare out of more than $23 million via hospice and diagnostic testing services that were never provided.

Sophia Shaklian, 38, of the Larchmont neighborhood, pleaded guilty in November 2025 to a single federal count of health care fraud, a felony carrying a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Co-defendant Alex Alexsanian, 48, of Burbank, pleaded guilty in January to money laundering conspiracy and is scheduled for sentencing next month…
