Santa Monica Home Invasion Shooting Conviction Upheld by Appeals Court

SANTA MONICA – A state appeals court has upheld the 46-year prison sentence for a Las Vegas man convicted in a 2016 series of home invasion robberies that included a Santa Monica burglary in which a man was shot.

In a ruling issued Friday, California’s 2nd District Court of Appeal rejected an appeal from Vacho Shahen, who was sentenced last June in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Shahen, now 40, was convicted in May 2024 of 15 charges tied to a roughly two-week crime spree in August 2016 across Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and Downey. The convictions included three counts of home invasion robbery, three counts of assault with a firearm, four counts of first-degree burglary and five counts of false imprisonment.
