No Mercy For Gabriel’s Mother: Life Sentence Stands In Brutal California Torture Case

Nearly thirteen years after the death of 8-year-old Gabriel Fernandez, a Los Angeles County judge has slammed the door on his mother’s attempt to walk free. On March 30, 2026, Superior Court Judge George G. Lomeli denied a petition from Pearl Fernandez that sought to overturn or reduce her life sentence for the 2013 torture and murder of her son.

The ruling keeps the 40-year-old Palmdale woman behind bars for the rest of her life without the possibility of parole. Fernandez had filed the request under recent changes to California law, hoping to argue that her role in the crime warranted a lighter sentence. However, Judge Lomeli wasn’t having it.
