Man Killed After Crane Falls At Lancaster Public Works Site

A mid-morning crane collapse at a Los Angeles County Public Works facility in Lancaster left a man dead Wednesday, turning a routine workday into an active investigation scene as crews rushed to figure out what went wrong.

The incident was reported at 10:35 a.m. at 260 East Avenue K-8, according to MyNewsLA. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman told the outlet that details were still limited as county Occupational Safety and Health officials examined what appeared to be a mechanical malfunction. The Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded, and a department spokeswoman said no one was taken to a hospital. The county coroner has withheld the man’s name pending notification of his family.

Investigation and Site History

U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration records show a prior accident inspection at the same Lancaster Public Works address that opened in March 2024 and closed in October 2024, resulting in one “other” violation and associated penalties, according to OSHA. County documents identify 260 East Avenue K-8 as the Los Angeles County Public Works Waterworks District maintenance office, confirming the location of the work zone, and the county’s address form lists the site as part of the Antelope Valley maintenance area, according to Los Angeles County Public Works.
