Los Angeles school district could close all its schools Tuesday. Why?

One of the largest school districts in the nation is at risk of having to close its schools that span Southern California due to a strike being called for on Tuesday, April 14.

In mid-March, labor unions representing tens of thousands of workers, including teachers, warned the Los Angeles Unified School District they’d strike unless an agreement was reached by the now impending April date. Union leaders told the USA TODAY Network in March about what they were seeking from the district: an increase in pay was a shared issue, but other key items were related to special education and an increase in staffing.
