Oldham County parents, advocates call for changes in special education services

OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. (WAVE) – A group of parents and disability advocates gathered outside the Oldham County Schools administrative building Thursday to raise concerns they say the district should address ahead of the next school year.

Some parents said they believe the district has not consistently met their children’s needs and alleged they have faced pushback when asking for accommodations. They also called for additional staff training to better support students with disabilities.

Several parents said they have filed complaints with the Kentucky Department of Education. Timothy Tipton, a parent of three students in the district, said he wants his children’s rights to be honored…
