LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS, have faced years of scrutiny nationwide for their harmful effects on the environment and human health. Now, Kentucky state Rep. Nima Kulkarni, D-Louisville, wants to create a committee to better understand how the chemicals are affecting the Commonwealth.
Kulkarni said she has been looking into the effects of PFAS on Kentuckians for years and is now proposing legislation to better understand the full scope of the issue and hold companies accountable.
“The focus that I’ve taken is in addition to putting together a working group to identify those clusters, those communities where health impacts are most prevalent is to also have reporting requirements for companies that have intentionally added PFAS. That means that PFAS compounds that aren’t necessary for the product to do its job.”…
