More than 50 cases of diarrhea-causing parasite confirmed in Kentucky, state health officials say

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky health officials said Friday there have been more than 50 confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis in the state.

According to the Kentucky Department of Public Health, 100 cases of the diarrhea-causing parasite have been reported since July 9. Of those cases, 55 were confirmed. Nine were reported in Jefferson County, with one reported in Oldham County.

“Public health experts urge everyone to follow food-safety guidelines to avoid cyclosporiasis and other intestinal illnesses,” officials said. “These include washing hands with soap and water before and after handling raw fruits and vegetables, as well as refrigerating cut, peeled, or cooked fruits and vegetables within two hours.”…
