September is Hunger Action Month, and it’s a good reminder for us to check on our neighbors.
Hunger doesn’t always look like what we imagine or expect – and that’s especially true right now, at a time when nearly everyone is struggling. Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville recently announced that, in the area they serve, more people are hungry right now than at any other time in the organization’s five-decade history.
In Kentucky, more than 837,000 people are currently facing hunger – and of those, nearly 258,000 are children. That’s 1 in 5 people, and 1 in 4 children.
Groceries are too expensive and gas is too high. Even back-to-school supplies spiked in cost this year. Family budgets are being stretched in every direction.
