LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools substitute teachers are asking community members for support as they continue pushing to restore incentive pay that was reduced in August.
The pay change came as JCPS worked to address a large budget deficit. JCPS staff told the school board this week that the deficit is down to $51 million, from $188 million in 2025.
Substitute teachers receive a daily wage. For long-term assignments, substitutes previously received time-and-a-half pay for any day after the 20th day. That was reduced to time-and-a-quarter, which teachers said amounts to a $900 reduction…
