Will Tropical Storm Helene impact Louisville? Rain, winds expected in Kentucky

Tropical Storm Helene is intensifying as it barrels toward Florida’s Gulf Coast, expected to reach hurricane status and predicted to make landfall Thursday night. It’s also likely to impact Louisville and Kentucky.

The weather system expected to make its way through the Ohio Valley follows a tornado warning Tuesday in Jefferson County and Southern Indiana as well as scattered showers and storms. National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Reaugh said the office is currently surveying areas in Clark County after a cold front moved through the area, causing storms on Tuesday and “isolated incidents of wind damage and a few reports of hail.”

Tropical Storm Helene intensifies, hurricane predicted

Raugh said the National Hurricane Center recorded winds of 70 mph Tuesday night as the system traveled toward the island of Cozumel off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, dumping heavy rain and triggering possible mudslides across western Cuba while passing between the island and the Yucatan. According to USA TODAY Tropical Storm Helene also resulted in storm surge and hurricane warnings along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
