Will Hurricane Helene hit Louisville and Kentucky? Here’s the Thursday forecast

Hurricane Helene is expected to make landfall late Thursday along Florida’s Gulf Coast and Big Bend as a Category 2 storm with winds up to 130 mph. According to the National Hurricane Center , Helene is southwest of Tampa as of Thursday morning and making its way toward a landfall on Florida’s Big Bend with “catastrophic winds” and waves that could reach up to 20 feet.

The weather system is expected to make its way through the Ohio Valley, and will likely impact Louisville and other Kentucky regions. The National Weather Service predicts 2-4 inches of rain by Sunday night. Here’s what we know about Helene and incoming storms.

Helene moves toward Ohio Valley, Kentucky regions

The NWS said Thursday morning the forecast has not changed much for Louisville. However, Helene was recently upgraded to a Category 2 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center . Meteorologist Tom Reaugh said Wednesday that remnants of Helene will likely bring “widespread rain and gusty winds” to Louisville and surrounding areas. The agency expects 2-4 inches of rain through Sunday night, with wind gusts up to 35 mph.
