Letters: The next JCPS superintendent won’t encounter a district on fire thanks to Pollio

Leading one of the largest school districts in the country is undoubtedly a daunting task. JCPS is a troubled system. Enormous challenges face the district and its staff every day. Yet they manage to educate youngsters of many diverse backgrounds and prepare them for their futures.Dr. Marty Pollio has done a tremendous job as the superintendent for the last seven years. His 27 years of service to our community and his list of accomplishments are impressive and positive.Sure, there have been issues, some very serious! Last year’s transportation debacle is one that stands out. Instead of making excuses, Dr. Pollio owned it and accepted responsibility for it, which is exactly what good leaders do. He’s the superintendent, which makes him ultimately responsible for everything that goes right or wrong.Dr. Pollio took the reins of a turbulent organization, led it through unprecedented challenges , and kept the ship upright. He has turned things around and pointed the organization in the right direction. Job well done, sir! Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement .The next superintendent will be stepping into a frying pan that’s warm, but it’s no longer on fire thanks to Dr. Pollio!
